East Dunbartonshire Council is changing the way schools and families communicate with each other through a new online service called parentsportal.scot.
This is an online portal designed to be a one-stop shop for a number of school-related activities and will create a new digital relationship between home and school. Through time it is hoped this portal will replace the traditional ‘schoolbag run’ and make communicating with one another easier and more efficient.
An initial pilot program was introduced at a few schools in November 2021 with the second tranche coming on-stream in January 2022. The roll out will include all schools during 2022. Families from participating schools will receive a letter via email advising what to do to register when their school is taking part.
At the heart of the system is an online account created by the Scottish Government called myaccount. This is a secure method of accessing parentsportal.scot which will allow you to link to your child and carry out the following tasks using a single sign-on approach:
- Make online payments (cashless catering)
- Report an absence
- View pupils' attendance
- View pupils’ timetable
- View trips and events
- View school holidays
- View school twitter feed
- Book appointments for Parents' Evenings
- Update contact details
- Receive notices from the school
- Complete the annual data check (that's when we check emergency contacts etc).
Before you can access the many features parentsportal.scot has to offer, you must first have a myaccount. If you do not already have an account, there are instructions in the frequently asked questions (FAQs) below on how to set one up. Once you have done this you can then register for parentsportal.scot. Please follow the instructions in the FAQs to do this.
Once you have successfully registered on parentsportal.scot you will be able to link to your child(ren) and gain access to the services listed above. Please note that in order to link to your child(ren), the data you provide during registration must match the most up-to-date data that we hold for them.
Our FAQs should give you all the information you need to register but should you need any further assistance please contact the school office.
We hope that parentsportal.scot and its services will become an integral part of you and your child’s school experience.
As this is all new and different schools will be at different stages of adopting Parents Portal we have devised FAQs that should answer all your questions and help you through the process. Once you receive your letter confirming when your school will go live, please select a link below that best describes your situation.
Please select one of the following options to take you to FAQs that contain the sign-up instructions that you will need:
