Proposal to Close Campsie View and Merkland Schools, and Establish a New Build Additional Support Needs School in Kirkintilloch

Following the Council decision in November 2018 to proceed with the above proposal, that decision was referred to the Scottish Ministers for their consideration.  This is part of the consultation process laid out in the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010.

The Scottish Government has confirmed that East Dunbartonshire Council has fulfilled its obligations under the 2010 Act, and has not called in the decision. Council Officers will therefore start working towards the development of a new additional support needs school. Over the coming months the Council will be working with parents, pupils, staff and the local community to ensure the school is designed to meet the needs of the school and local communities.

Under the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010, the report must be published for at least three weeks before the Council can decide whether or not to implement the proposal. This is known as the ‘extended consideration period’. It is intended to allow interested parties to read the report and make views known to their Councillors.

Officers will submit a report to Council for consideration on Thursday 15 November 2018.
