Bishopbriggs Town Centre Regeneration
Bishopbriggs Civic Space
Work is taking place to create a new Civic Space in Bishopbriggs town centre, as part of the Council's Place and Growth Programme – supported by the Glasgow City Region City Deal.
It will be a family-friendly focal point for people of all ages to enjoy a variety of events, socialise and relax, while supporting local traders, services, employment and regeneration.
A Full Business Case (FBC) was approved at a meeting of the Council on 18 December 2025 and submitted to Glasgow City Region for approval. You can view an Executive Summary of the FBC here.
The FBC was approved at a meeting of the Glasgow City Region Chief Executives' Group on 12 February 2026.
That released the necessary funding, allowing a contractor to be appointed to deliver the new Civic Space – Luddon Construction.
Construction work is taking place between May and the end of 2026.
The Civic Space will be created on land between Kirkintilloch Road, Flockhart Drive and St Matthew’s Church - to the north of Morrisons – with the site securely fenced off to prevent unauthorised access.
You can view the report presented to the meeting of the Council on 18 December 2025 by visiting the Committee Diary section.

Luddon Construction.
The contractor is responsible for planning, managing and delivering the works, including day-to-day operational decisions. The Council has procured services in the form of a Project Manager, NEC Supervisor and Principal Designer.
These services are in place to provide regular checks and liaison with the contractor in relation to the delivery of the works contract. The Council, along with the external supporting services, will meet regularly with the contractor on site to discuss progress of the works.
The Council requires the contractor to carry out delivery of the works in a manner which minimises disruption to local businesses and residents. Where concerns are highlighted to us, they will be raised with the contractor.
To allow St Matthew’s to continue to operate as normal during construction works, a designated pedestrian/essential vehicle route will be available at all times – from Flockhart Drive to the church entrance.
The footpath adjacent to the site on Flockhart Drive will be closed during the construction period for safety reasons.
As the works continue, the footpath from the underpass on Kirkintilloch Road to the pedestrian crossing at Flockhart Drive will also be closed, but a designated route will be provided through the site for pedestrians, to help keep disruption to a minimum.
All of the above measures are essential to ensure the public and workforce are kept safe at all times during the construction period, while minimising disruption as much as possible.
There will be no direct impact on local businesses, but there may be some noise disruption during construction and vehicles accessing the site. Again, the aim is to try to minimise any disruption as much as possible.
We would like to thank you for your patience and apologise for any inconvenience which the works may cause. If you have any questions or concerns, contact:

The Civic Space is part of the Council's £46.77 million Place and Growth Programme, supported by the Glasgow City Region (GCR) City Deal.
It also includes the Westerhill Development Road – 2km of new/upgraded road in Bishopbriggs, which aims to unlock key business sites, create jobs, boost transport links and reduce congestion.
The programme is supported by £31.96 million from the UK and Scottish Governments through Glasgow City Region City Deal.
Working hours may vary at certain stages, as the contractor seeks to complete works as quickly as possible – to limit disruption for people accessing properties and businesses.
An online exhibition was published in June 2023, which presented designs for the new Civic Space in Bishopbriggs town centre.
These were available to view on 17 June 2023 in BetterBriggs Community Garden (at the Triangle Shopping Centre).
Residents were notified in advance of the works in the following ways:
- A letter-drop to local residents, properties and businesses
- Updates provided on the Council website.
Updates to Elected Members were provided via committee reports and Technical Notes.

City Deal Place and Growth Programme
This project element of the Council’s City Deal Place and Growth Programme will play a key role in the regeneration of Bishopbriggs town centre to create a more attractive town centre, with a high-quality environment that is sustainable over the long term and meets the needs of the community and its partners.
The Project Objectives align with national, regional and local strategies for business and economic development, infrastructure and spatial planning.
Objectives include:
- Attracting investment and reduce vacancy rates – businesses value proximity to public space and the quality of the streetscape to attract customers or tenants
- Attracting visitors – people are more likely to want to shop in a well-designed and more aesthetic environment
- Increasing tourism – investment in the physical environment is critical for attracting tourists
- Enhancing image and civic pride – high-quality public realm can improve perceptions and investor confidence in an area, building a positive image and reputation, and consequently providing a basis for growth.
This will be enabled through improvements to the wider public realm and physical environment with the creation of flexible outdoor commercial/community space in the form of a new Civic Space.
The improvements have been largely informed by the Public Realm Plan for Bishopbriggs town centre by adopting the actions implicit within East Dunbartonshire Council’s Local Development Plan (LDP), the emerging LDP2 and the Bishopbriggs Town Centre Strategy.
