Counterfeit Trade Marked goods with an estimated retail value of £130,000, have been seized from retail premises in East Dunbartonshire.

The confiscations are part of ongoing enforcement led by the Council’s Trading Standards Team.

The items were seized in December and an investigation involving multiple brand holders was carried out to establish the authenticity of the goods. Statements received established a large proportion of the items seized were copies of high-end designer fashion brands. Enforcement action is now concluded, and the offending items can now be destroyed.

Convener of Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee, Councillor Paul Ferretti, said, “Our Trading Standards Officers work extremely hard to prevent local retailers, operating legitimate businesses in our communities, being undermined by those dealing in counterfeit goods. These products are poor quality often using substandard materials and their manufacture and distribution can also be part of wider criminality. The successful identification and seizure of these imitations is great news for both our business community and local consumers.

If you suspect a local business or individual is selling counterfeit goods, please call Trading Standards on 0300 123 4510, Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers (anonymously) on 0800 555 111
