In Employee News 17, which we issued on 3 September, we let you know that Scottish Government had announced that Public Sector Reform would be a key element of its Programme for Government 2026-31.
Yesterday, 21 September 2026, Scottish Government published its Public sector reform: proposal (Proposal for reform of local governance) on its website.
Their proposals were shared with COSLA, and a copy of that document has been issued to Councillors via a Technical Note.
I committed to keeping you up to date with information as it becomes available, and I would like to again reassure you all that it remains ‘business as usual’ for us as we continue to deliver our essential services to our communities here in East Dunbartonshire.
We will engage in the consultation as that develops following this latest proposal and will we will continue to keep you all informed with updates as they emerge. We will also continue to engage with our local Trade Unions to share information and discuss implications as more details are developed.
