Back

Dear all,

I hope everyone enjoyed the warm weather last week – the sunshine meant our new playparks in Bishopbriggs and Mugdock Park were busy with families every day which was fantastic.

The Scottish Parliamentary elections took place on Thursday 7 May and once again we delivered a successful election. The hard work that goes into elections can’t be understated, with a range of teams and individuals involved in ensuring the run up, polling day and the count ran efficiently. Thank you to everyone for your hard work over the last few months.

Our income management system was recently upgraded. This was a large piece of work led by Finance & Digital Services with support from other teams. The upgrade positively impacts on our payment system used by residents, as well as ensuring a more effective and efficient way for our Finance team to carry out essential work. I want to say thank you to everyone who worked on this and well done on ensuring a smooth transition.

Could you foster a child or young person?

If you or someone you know has ever considered fostering, the Fostering team are hosting an online information evening on Wednesday 10 June at 6.30pm-8pm.

This relaxed and informal session is a chance to meet experienced foster carers, hear real stories, learn more about the support available and ask any questions you may have. If you’re interested, please email fostering@eastdunbarton.gov.uk

Red Wheel Plaque unveiling

A Red Wheel Plaque commemorating Monkland & Kirkintilloch Railway was recently unveiled on the outer wall of our HQ.

Funded by Kirkintilloch and District Society of Antiquaries, the Red Wheel Plaque is one of around 40 in Scotland. It is a scheme to recognise and pay tribute to sites of historical importance to transport heritage. This, the most recent plaque to be inaugurated, commemorates the Kirkintilloch Basin, the site where coal was brought by the Monkland & Kirkintilloch Railway for transfer to the Forth & Clyde Canal.

And finally….

Well done to our pupils, teachers and everyone who works in our schools and our Education team after new data shows that ninety-eight percent of our school leavers in 2024/25 went onto a positive destination; the highest percentage across all Scottish local authority areas. Determined by Skills Development Scotland, a positive destination is recorded for a school leaver entering employment, further or higher education, training or voluntary work.

A fantastic achievement and everyone should be very proud of themselves.

Thanks,

Ann
