Back

Dear all,

I hope everyone is well and those who took some time off during the Easter period had a relaxing and enjoyable break.

Tomorrow (Thursday 7 May) the Scottish Parliamentary elections will take place. A lot of hard work is carried out by multiple individuals and services – led by our Election team - to ensure a smooth and successful election. Voting will take place from 7am to 10pm on Thursday with the Count at the Leisuredrome beginning at 9am on Friday 8 May with the result announced later in the day.

A range of accessibility assistance is available for those voting on Thursday with more support on offer than ever before. To read more about the election, including candidates visit our Scottish Parliamentary Election webpage. This includes a handy what to expect at the polling station video.

I would like to take this chance to thank everyone who has been involved in the preparation, those who are working at our polling stations on Thursday, and those involved in the Count on Friday. Your work is appreciated and I’m sure we will once again deliver a successful election.

Licensed premises to open longer for World Cup games

Football fans will be able to back their favourite team in East Dunbartonshire's licensed premises this summer with extended opening hours on offer during the World Cup.

East Dunbartonshire Licensing Board agreed to a general extension covering all matches at the FIFA World Cup 2026 – allowing premises to open until 30 minutes after the final whistle, should they choose to. This will only apply to on-sale establishments that already have televised sports as an activity with their licence.

To find out more visit our news release on the extended hours.

International Workers' Memorial Day

On Tuesday 28 April we marked International Workers' Memorial Day by holding our annual wreath-laying event at the Cadder Pit Memorial Cairn in Bishopbriggs. I joined Elected Members, Trades Union representatives, Community Planning Partners and members of our Senior Management team to commemorate those who have lost their lives at work, or from work related injury or illness.

Monthly Wellbeing Focus

As usual, our Monthly Wellbeing Focus is updated each month with key campaigns and details of support all employees can access.

And finally….

Congratulations to Clober Primary in Milngavie who won the East Dunbartonshire heats of the annual Euroquiz competition and will go on to represent the area in the national finals. A team of four P6 pupils will now face 32 other teams when they attend the Scottish finals in Edinburgh in June. Good Luck!

Thanks,

Ann
