Consultation on Taxi Fares

This consultation is now closed as of 15 February 2019.

People are being consulted on a proposed taxi fare freeze in East Dunbartonshire.

The Council held initial consultation on the current fare structure with taxi operators, drivers and trade organisations.

Responses were received opposing a rise in fares, with additional concerns raised during recent consultation for new conditions for taxis and private hire vehicles. One letter supporting an increase in fares was received from a taxi trade body.

The Policy and Resources Committee met recently and agreed to embark on public consultation on the basis of no increase in fares and other charges in connection with the hire of a taxi in East Dunbartonshire.

Consultation will now take place from 21 December 2018 until 15 February 2019 and people are being invited to get involved.

The Council, as licensing authority, is required to review taxi fares within its area periodically.

It last reviewed taxi fares in 2016, with new fares previously coming into effect from 1 July 2016.
