Your Voice Matters

Budget and priorities consultation for 2022/23

The Council is seeking your views on service priorities and balancing the budget for 2022/23 and beyond.

This consultation and engagement exercise, which will run for 12 weeks, until 18 November 2021, it is your chance to have your say – your voice matters.

What are your views?

We want to achieve three things through this budget engagement exercise:

  1. To raise awareness of the range of services the Council funds and delivers and achievements of recent years
  2. To raise awareness of our financial position – the savings we’ve made and the savings we know we will need to make in future
  3. To gather your views on:
  • our established Council priorities and commitments and what you think our future priorities should be
  • Council tax and charges for some Council services

Council Services

This video highlights some of the key services funded and delivered by the Council, from cradle to grave.

Council Priorities

The Local Outcome Achievement Plan 2017-2027 is the overarching strategic approach for the Council and the Community planning partners in East Dunbartonshire. We also have 11 key priority areas that we focus on, aligned to the LOIP and the local outcomes.

This Budget Consultation information provides background details on our current income and expenditure, summarised the LOIP and Council priorities and explains the commitments and achievements for each of these priorities. We also include a section on charging and a section on Council Tax.

Our Budget Survey

In our budget survey we want you to tell us if you agree with our Council priorities. We ask for your views on if these should change as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask your views on Council Tax increases and increases to fees and charges, and we also want to know if you have any other suggestions for how we can make the £23 million further savings needed to balance the budget over the next two years.

Other ways to participate

We would encourage you to complete the survey online, but if you prefer, you can pick up a printed copy of our consultation document and the survey at the following locations:

  • your Community Hubs in Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Lennoxtown or Kirkintilloch
  • your Community Centres in Auchinairn, Hillhead, Torrance & Twechar
  • your local leisure centre
  • your local library.

You can return your completed survey to the Budget Survey boxes also located in the locations above, or send a paper copy to the address at the top of the survey.

What happens next?

Our budget consultation will run for 12 weeks until 18 November. The finding will be collated and will be reported back to Council to inform the budget setting process for 2022/23.

The findings will be reported to the December meeting of the Council and will inform the decisions to be taken for the 2022/23 budget, which will be agreed at a Special Council to be held in February 2022.
