  1. The purpose of this technical note is to inform Members of the amendment to the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (Licensing of Short-term Lets) Order 2022 which came into force on 1 March 2022. From 1 October 2022, new hosts operating a short-term let in the local authority area must have a licence before taking any bookings or receiving guests.
  2. Existing hosts operating before 1 October 2022 can continue to accept bookings and receive guests while their application is being determined and were given until 1 April 2023 to apply for a licence. It is estimated that there are 80 existing operators within the local authority area.
  3. On 1 March 2023, the Scottish Parliament approved a one-off six-month extension to the deadline for existing hosts operating before 1 October 2022.  Existing hosts must now have applied for a short-term let licence by 1 October 2023.
