Details: 
  1. As part of an ongoing national pay dispute, the teaching unions EIS, NASUWT, AHDS and SSTA have advised the Council of further national strike action on 28 February and 1 March.

The EIS teaching union has also advised the Council of further dates that it is calling its members out on targeted strike action the week before and the week after the national strike action, resulting in strike action over the coming three weeks.

  1. The targeted strike action affects the Clydebank & Milngavie Scottish Parliamentary constituency.
    • The first week will be targeted action, affecting only Milngavie Schools & the Bearsden schools that fall within the constituency area.
    • The second week will be national action affecting all East Dunbartonshire schools.
    • The third week will again be targeted action, affecting only Milngavie schools the Bearsden schools that fall within the constituency area.
  2. The strike action will result in the following closures:
    • Targeted Action – Milngavie & Bearsden: 22-24 February (inclusive) The following schools will be closed to pupils for three days from Wednesday 22 February to Friday 24 February:
      Secondary: Bearsden Academy, Douglas Academy,

Primary: Baljaffray Primary, Castlehill Primary, Mosshead Primary, St Nicholas Primary, Clober Primary, Craigdhu Primary and Milngavie Primary

Early Years Centres will remain open.

    • National Action – all East Dunbartonshire: 28 February-1 March (inclusive) All East Dunbartonshire primary, ASN and secondary schools will be closed to pupils on Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March. Early Years Centres, with the exception of Campsie Nursery, will remain open.
    • Targeted Action – Milngavie & Bearsden: 7-9 March (inclusive) The following schools will be closed to pupils for three days from Tuesday 7 March to Thursday 9 March:

Secondary: Bearsden Academy, Douglas Academy,

Primary: Baljaffray Primary, Castlehill Primary, Mosshead Primary, St Nicholas Primary, Clober Primary, Craigdhu Primary and Milngavie Primary.

Early Years Centres will remain open.

  1. In line with our usual practice, operational arrangements are being communicated to all school-based staff, teaching and non-teaching, including those not covered by the Teaching Unions strike mandates.
  2. Schools will communicate that they are closed to pupils through their usual communication channels, and further reminders will be issued through the Council’s social media channels, linking to our school strike action webpage.
  3. The usual arrangements will apply for school transport and free school meal provision.
  4. Further updates in relation to the ongoing teachers’ pay dispute will be communicated as they become available.
