Details:

1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Elected Members of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

The 16 Days Campaign is a global opportunity to fight gender-based violence, promoting:

•    the safety of women and men;
•    highlighting the nature and prevalence of gender-based violence;
•    raising awareness of the issue as a human rights concern; and
•    strengthening efforts to combat gender-based violence.

2. The campaign runs every year from 25 November, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, known as Human Rights Day.

3. Empowered, East Dunbartonshire Violence Against Women Partnership and its member organisations support the campaign and organise various activities to spread awareness and action in East Dunbartonshire.

4. The planned activities include community events, training, social media messages and promotion of nationally organised events.  Empowered will utilise the website and social media platforms to share information and updates.  The dedicated web pages can be accessed via www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/16-days-action-against-gender-based-violence-ca...
Further, key council buildings will be lit up in orange.

5. Empowered will be hosting an event at Kirkintilloch Town Hall, in partnership with RAWS (Remembering the Accused Witches of Scotland), a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. They will speak about women who were persecuted, prosecuted, and murdered in excessively large numbers in Scottish history, including facts about 4 locally accused women.
