Statement of Reasons for Proposing to Make the Above Order
It is considered necessary to make the above Order to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance road safety within Milngavie and to ensure all appropriate roads in built-up areas of Milngavie have a safer speed limit of 20mph.
The implementation of this on residential roads and busy pedestrian streets across Milngavie will save lives and reduce the risk and severity of injuries from collisions between vehicles and vulnerable road users, make streets safer for playing, walking and cycling and encourage more people to make more sustainable travel choices. The Service is in favour of 20mph speed limits in urban areas and built-up village streets that are primarily residential to ensure greater safety for cyclists and pedestrians, reduce perceptions of road danger, encourage people to walk, wheel and cycle, and create more pleasant streets and neighbourhoods by providing a more equitable balance between different road users. These measures align with broader goals such as promoting sustainable transport, improving public health and enhancing the overall liveability of urban areas.
