Notice of making of The East Dunbartonshire Council (Various Roads, Bearsden) (20 mph Speed Limit) Order 2025.

On Thursday, 24 July 2025 the East Dunbartonshire Council made an Order under s84 of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 which Order comes into operation on Monday, 08 September 2025. 

The proposed Order was advertised in the edition of the Milngavie and Bearsden Herald published on 07 February 2025. The main effect of the Order will be the introduction of a 20-mph speed limit on the entire length or part of the length of those roads in Bearsden listed in Schedule 1 below.

A modification has been made to Schedule 2 of the proposed Order setting out lengths of road in Bearsden to which the 20mph speed limit will apply. The proposed Order stated that the 20mph speed limit would apply on that length of the A739 Bearsden Road/Switchback Road (Northbound and Southbound) between its junction with the Canniesburn Toll Roundabout and a point 38 metres or thereby south of the extended centreline of Henderland Road. The effect of the Order as made is that the 20mph speed limit applies on that length of the A739 Bearsden Road/Switchback Road between its junction with Canniesburn Toll Roundabout and a point 40 metres or thereby south of Braemar Crescent.    

A copy of the Order as modified and plans detailing the lengths of road affected may be examined without payment of fee on the Traffic Regulation Orders page of the East Dunbartonshire Council website and at the offices of: -

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any provision therein on grounds that the Order is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any relevant Regulation made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within 6 weeks from 24 July 2025, make an application to the Court of Session for this purpose.

THE EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE COUNCIL(VARIOUS ROADS, BEARSDEN) (20 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2025

The East Dunbartonshire Council, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with the Chief Constable of the Police Service of Scotland in accordance with Part III and IV of Schedule 9 to the Act, hereby make the following Order.

• This Order may be cited as “The East Dunbartonshire Council (Various Roads, Bearsden) (20 mph Speed Limit) Order 2025” and shall come into operation on Monday 08 September 2025
• In this Order the following expressions have the meanings hereby assigned to them:-
  “vehicle”, unless the context otherwise requires, means a vehicle of any description and includes a machine or implement of any kind drawn or propelled along roads, whether or not by mechanical power
• No person shall drive any vehicle at a speed exceeding 20 mph on the lengths of road specified in Schedules 1 and 2 to this Order.
