About the project

Now entering its fourth year, the Count Me In project is made up of two experienced primary school teachers with classes running across the Council area. Courses offered range from Numeracy at SCQF level 2 up to National 5 Applications of Maths.

This course was incredibly well suited as someone who needed maths. The classes being small and inclusive was so helpful and made everyone feel comfortable in their abilities. I could not recommend Joy and Graham enough for all the help and patience they gave us all.

All classes are FREE for East Dunbartonshire residents:

  • Who are aged 16-18 and not in education, employment, or training, or
  • Who are aged 19 or over.

If you would like to sign up or find out more, please email us at countmein@eastdunbarton.gov.uk

Upcoming Course: FREE National 5 Applications of Maths

Would you like to gain your National 5 Applications of Maths SQA qualification?

After successfully delivering the course in 2025/26, we are delighted to again offer it to East Dunbartonshire residents from August 2026 – March 2027, with the final exam taking place in May 2027.

The National 5 Applications of Maths course is the study of Maths in real-life contexts. It focuses on the areas of numeracy, finance, statistics, measurement and geometry and aims to equip you with the mathematical skills and knowledge you will need in everyday life – both personally and in the workplace.

The course will be taught in small groups by our experienced tutors and all learning materials and resources will be provided free of charge.

You would normally be expected to have attained the skills, knowledge and understanding required by Standard Grade General Maths 3 or 4, National 4 Maths, National 4 Lifeskills Maths, National 4 Applications of Maths or Intermediate 1 Maths at A or B.

However, if you do not have these qualifications and are interested in the course then please get in touch and our tutors will discuss the course content and expectations with you. We can also offer National 3 and National 4 Applications of Maths qualifications, which may be more suitable for some people.

Classes are planned for Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and Milngavie - specific times and locations to be confirmed.

Quotes from previous students

“The teachers were so helpful and explained things clearly. Always there for extra support if we needed it. I have actually missed doing the regular past papers and have been looking into other maths courses as I enjoyed it so much.”

“Having left school over 30 years ago with no maths qualification, this has now given me the confidence and skills that when my son sits his Nat 5 maths I will be able to help him with it. I will also be looking at expanding my skills and doing more with the skills and experience I gained. I am grateful to Graham and Joy for running the course so well.”

“Having been teaching in East Dunbartonshire for over 15 years, I have loved helping children develop a positive attitude to numbers and maths through fun and exciting learning experiences. Since starting with the Count Me In project, I have relished working with a fantastic team in providing these same learning opportunities to adults and families. I especially enjoy seeing learners’ confidence being boosted by showing them different ways to think about maths and how they actually use it on a daily basis. I’m looking forward to continuing to expand Count Me In over the next year.”

"I have been teaching in East Dunbartonshire since the beginning of my career and enjoy sharing my love and enthusiasm for Numeracy. This project has given me the opportunity to work as part of a fantastic team to share this passion with adults and families across the Council area. I have particularly enjoyed delivering SQA qualifications and working with families to help them make maths fun! I have learned a lot from the people I have worked with and am looking forward to providing further courses.”
