Issue 78 - July 2025

Local Development Plan 3 – Calls for Ideas and Sites

The Council is continuing work to prepare a new Local Development Plan (LDP) – to be known as LDP3. Having submitted its Evidence Report to the Scottish Government’s Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DPEA) on 7 July 2025, the next stage is the ‘Call-for-Ideas and Sites’ consultation – which is taking place between Monday 21 July and Monday 15 September 2025.

When approved and adopted, LDP3 will set out a long-term vision for what local development should take place and where. It is vital for:

  • Addressing climate change
  • Delivering high-quality places to live
  • Attracting new jobs and investment
  • Regenerating town centres
  • Protecting historic and natural environment.

The Call for Ideas and Sites Consultation includes two surveys – available online and in print on request:

Call for Ideas

This is an opportunity to submit suggestions, policies and potential uses for areas. The Call-for-Ideas is a way for people, groups and stakeholders to influence how land might be used in the future – such as local housing needs, employment, tourism, renewable energy, active travel and improvements to local green spaces, community facilities and town/village centres.

Call for Sites

This is an opportunity for developers, landowners, agents and members of the public to put forward sites they would like to be considered for future allocation in LDP3. The Call-for-Sites process can be used to suggest locations for a range of potential uses, for example: housing; retail; business and industry; tourism; community facilities; nature-based solutions to adapt to climate change; and other types of development.

Sites can be submitted via the online survey form, with any additional supporting information to be emailed to development.plan@eastdunbarton.gov.uk

While the Call for Sites survey is designed with developers in mind, community groups and individuals are also encouraged to submit sites which could play a role in improving their area.

Drop-In Sessions

Food Growing Strategy

Work is underway to finalise East Dunbartonshire’s Food Growing Strategy. The Food Growing Strategy will improve access to affordable, healthy, sustainable food by increasing opportunities for people in East Dunbartonshire to participate in food growing activities.

Engagement Exercise

An engagement exercise is taking place to inform the finalised version of the Food Growing Strategy. The Strategy is currently being updated to reflect current food growing demand, along with responses received following the consultation on the draft Strategy in 2019.

The public are invited to attend drop-in sessions to share their thoughts on if the proposed changes to the final Food Growing Strategy adequately reflect and respond to the views shared during the draft Strategy consultation.

You can get involved by attending a drop-in session or by visiting the Food Growing Strategy page from the 31 July – where you can view the proposed changes to the final Food Growing Strategy along with a summary of the Strategy. An online survey will also be available from 31 July to 29 August for those not able to attend a drop-in session.

Drop-In Sessions

  • Thursday 14 August - 3-7pm – Kirkintilloch Town Hall (shared with the LDP3 Call for Ideas and Call for Sites)
  • Tuesday 19 August - 4-8pm – Fraser Centre, Milngavie (shared with the LDP3 Call for Ideas and Call for Sites).

All responses received will be taken into consideration to update the final Food Growing Strategy, which is being developed in response to the statutory duties set out in the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.
