Privacy Notice

Who will process your personal information?

The personal information you provide to us or we collect about you (your personal information) will be processed by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Why will your information be processed?

This privacy notice tells you what to expect when East Dunbartonshire Council’s Sustainability Policy Team collects personal information from you. When contacting us, you may be asked for personal information such as name, address, postcode, etc.

Information may be collected:

  • to fulfil your request for information or services relating to sustainability policy issues
  • as input to improving our site
  • as part of the process of consultation

Who will have access to your personal information?

This personal information may also be shared with other departments within East Dunbartonshire Council, the Council’s committees and/or boards, and Elected Members, for the same purpose. 

We will not pass your personal information to external organisations for marketing or sales purposes or for any commercial use.

What is the Council’s legal basis to use your personal information?

The following legislation provides a legal basis for us to use your personal information:

  • The Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005
  • Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015
  • Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act 2004
  • Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 as amended
  • Conservation (Natural Habitats, etc.) Regulations 1994
  • Wildlife and Natural Environment (Scotland) Act 2011
  • Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009
  • Local Government in Scotland Act 2003
  • The Town and Country Planning Act (Scotland) 1997 as amended by The Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006

Retention Schedule

All personal data will be retained in accordance with the Scottish Council on Archives Records Retention Schedule as detailed in sections 19.001 (‘Allotments’) and 20.01 (‘Strategic Planning’) , which state the following retention periods:

  • Allotment waiting list – 1 year after the termination of allotment rental
  • Consultation responses for major policies – 5 years

What rights do you have over your personal information?

Your Rights

  • Right of Access
    You have the right to access the personal information the Council holds about you. This right is called a Subject Access Request, often referred to as a SAR.

    You can receive a copy of your personal data held by the Council, details on why it is being used, who it has been/ will be shared with, how long it will be held for, the source of the information and if the Council uses computer systems profile or take decisions about you.   • Right to rectification
    You have the right to request the Council correct any information held about you that is inaccurate.
     
  • Right to erasure
    You have the right to request that the Council delete the personal information about you. This right is known as the right to be forgotten.
     
  • Right to restrict processing
    You have the right to request that the Council stops using your personal information, while retaining a copy of it.

Who to contact if you have any complaints or concerns about how your personal information has been handled?
