The Council wants to hear your thoughts and views on short term lets in the area before a new licensing scheme is introduced.

The Civic Government Scotland Act 1982 (Licensing of Short Term Lets) Order 2022 passed by the Scottish Parliament, states that all local authorities in Scotland must introduce a licensing scheme for properties operating as short term lets.

The Council’s Draft Short Term Lets Policy focuses on ensuring that an efficient, effective and proportionate licensing scheme is put in place which meets the needs and circumstances of East Dunbartonshire whilst supporting applicants who wish to obtain a short term let licence.

The draft policy sets out guidance to operators including the need to conform to a minimum safety standard and outlines how the Council will administer applications, collect fees and monitor short term lets.

The policy also aims to minimise the risk to operators and neighbouring residents by ensuring noise, nuisance or anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively and ultimately ensure the safety of short term lets throughout the area.

Before the licensing scheme starts on 1 October 2022 the Council is asking residents, businesses and visitors to the area to take part in a consultation in order to consider the draft policy and get their views on aspects of it.

The Draft Short Term Lets Policy consultation will run between Monday 20 June 2022 and Sunday 17 July 2022 and will include proposed application fees and guidance.

Council Leader Councillor Gordan Low, Convenor of Policy and Resources said, "I encourage everyone to get involved and make their views on this draft policy known, and help to determine what the final version will include.

“We want to make sure that our Short Term Lets Policy is robust, suits the needs of our area and ensures that safety standards are met. This is an opportunity for local people to have a voice in shaping the guidance and pricing model of this policy and so we’re keen to hear from as many of you as possible.”

The draft policy and copies of the application form and checklist is available to view. You can also request a copy by emailing STL@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
