Make it a tree-mendous Christmas by recycling your real tree and cards

Christmas treeEveryone loves to Spruce up the house with a tree and cards at this time of year, but once the festive fun is over, don’t Fir-get to recycle your real Christmas tree and festive cards. Diverting them from landfill will leave you feeling Pine.

From Wednesday 5 January 2022 you can dispose of your real tree in a skip at these locations:

  • William Patrick Library car park, Kirkintilloch
  • Mavis Valley Recycling Centre, Bishopbriggs
  • West of Scotland Rugby Club car park, Milngavie

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson is urging all residents to keep up the good work when it comes to recycling. “We would urge the residents of East Dunbartonshire to keep up their tradition of being great at recycling. You can recycle your non-tinsel Christmas cards by placing them in your blue bin and you can take your Christmas tree to one of our recycling sites to ensure that it doesn’t contribute to rubbish going to landfill. Just remember if you are planning a visit to Mavis Valley to make a booking first.”

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody, added, "Last month’s Cop26 event in Glasgow has underlined the importance of making changes big and small, and recycling excess Christmas cardboard waste is one that we can all help with. If you're unable to take your tree to a recycling point, you can call our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 4510. We can arrange for your Christmas tree to be picked up or your garden waste bin emptied, free of charge, between 17 January and 23 January 2022. While this year’s Christmas may not be a typical one, it can still be a green one.”
