Take a walk down memory lane as history is brought to life through a series of thought- provoking events to celebrate Local History Month.
The programme, organised by East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust in partnership with East Dunbartonshire’s heritage and history groups, will run from Wednesday 1 March until Thursday 31 March.
Exhibitions and activities celebrating East Dunbartonshire's rich history – including walks, talks, art shows and discussions - have been organised at venues across the area.
Find out more about the dramatic events of World War 2 when a local town was bombed in a talk entitled The Day the War Came to Bishopbriggs.
Little historians can get their hands dirty at the family dig event at Gavin’s Mill in Milngavie, while adults can find out more about local geology and the area’s mining past in a presentation organised by Torrance and Baldernock Heritage & History Group.
Learn more about the fascinating lives of local heroes Beatrice Clugston or Thomas Muir at one of many scheduled talks taking place. Alternatively, let your own creative juices flow during a history and creative writing session with writer and researcher Flora Johnston at Kirkintilloch’s William Patrick Library.
For the more energetic, guided walks are taking place across East Dunbartonshire including a canal heritage walk from Townhead canal bridge in Kirkintilloch, led by Canal News editor Paul Carter, which will delve into the stories behind this important waterway.
