Flag raised in support of 999 Emergency Services Day

East Dunbartonshire’s Provost, Gillian Renwick, was joined by local officers from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police ScotlandJohn Connelly, Clinical Team Leader from Scottish Ambulance Service; Kirkintilloch Station Commander John Miller from Scottish Fire & Rescue Service; Provost Renwick; Jordan Currie, Area Service Manager Scottish Ambulance Service; and Chief Inspector Aidan Higgins from Police Scotland. and the Scottish Ambulance Service to raise the 999 Emergency Services Day flag at East Dunbartonshire Council Head Quarters in Kirkintilloch.

Each year the flag is raised in support of 999 Emergency Services Day which was launched in 2018 to celebrate our emergency services personnel and remember those killed in the line of duty.

Emergency Services Day begins at 9am on Monday  9 September – to represent the 9th hour of the 9th day of the 9th month.

Provost Renwick was joined by Kirkintilloch Station Commander John Miller from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Chief Inspector Aidan Higgins from Police Scotland, and Clinical Team Leader John Connelly and Area Service Manager Jordan Currie from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

They met at East Dunbartonshire Council's HQ in Kirkintilloch and helped unfurl the special Emergency Services Day flag which will flyJohn Connelly, Clinical Team Leader from Scottish Ambulance Service; Kirkintilloch Station Commander John Miller from Scottish Fire & Rescue Service; Provost Renwick; Jordan Currie, Area Service Manager Scottish Ambulance Service; and Chief Inspector Aidan Higgins from Police Scotland. on Monday  9 September.

Provost Renwick said, "Everyone living in our communities benefits from the protection provided by our Emergency Services; we never know the minute we may rely on them to help us or our loved ones. 

“That’s why we recognise this national day of tribute to show our appreciation and remind ourselves that often emergency services personnel put themselves at risk of injury or death in carrying out dangerous duties. We owe them our respect and appreciation for all that they do.

“It’s a great honour for me to meet with our local officers and thank them on behalf of the people of East Dunbartonshire and to raise the Emergency Services Day flag to show our gratitude for all the emergency services personnel who live and work in our communities.”
