Festive period refuse and recycling collections changes

Date:
Wednesday, 1 December, 2021

christmas binsBin collection days are changing slightly over the festive period and residents are being urged to check the amended arrangements.

For residents who receive a collection on a Saturday (Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) or Sunday (Boxing Day and January 2), refuse and recycling collections will be running two days later on the Monday and Tuesday respectively. The Waste team will be working until 9pm on these days and delays are expected so please leave your bin on pavement until collection has taken place. Collections on all other days will remain the same.

Normal collection days will resume on Wednesday 5 January 2022. Please ensure your bins and food caddies are out on the kerbside the night before your relevant collection day as collections may be earlier than usual.

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson, said, "Over the Christmas period, most of us are out of our normal routine and it can be easy to forget about things like bin collections, especially if they fall on a different day.

"I’d encourage all households who will be affected by these temporary changes to be well organised – make sure you have put the right stuff in the right bin and also have your bin out for collection the night before your revised collection day as this will allow our crews to get through the collections as quickly as possible."

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody, said, "Our Waste teams will be working hard to ensure that disruption during the festive season is kept to a minimum and that collections affected by the public holidays are swiftly caught up upon. In addition to the kerbside collections, I would encourage people to make use of our recycling sites throughout the area for the extra waste that can be generated at this time of year.”
