Families in East Dunbartonshire who are entitled to a School Clothing Grant for the new academic year will receive double the amount that was previously paid out. This increase is to help local families cope with the cost of living crisis.Graphic of keyboard with words "apply now"

The new payment for eligible primary school pupils is £240 while eligible young people at secondary school will be awarded £300. Applications for the grant can be made online from today (Thursday 23 June).

A simplified approach for families applying for both free school meals and school clothing grants was introduced in 2020, meaning they need only complete one online form for all eligible children in the household. All supporting documents can be uploaded to the form before it is submitted and the grants are paid directly into bank accounts.

Council Leader, Gordan Low, said, "We have allocated £320k from the Scottish Government's COVID Economic Recovery Fund to double the grant award for the 2022/23 school year. So many families are feeling the pinch at the moment and buying children everything they need to go back to school at the start of the new term is costly. By doubling the grant from last year's amount, we hope to ease the pressure on families who may be struggling financially."
