At McLaughlin & Harvey, a key outcome for each of our projects is to ensure that we leave a positive legacy within the community we have worked.  At our Boclair Academy site, the site team are thrilled to have organised a first of its kind event for the community of Bearsden.

The project comprises the re-development of Boclair Academy to include a new school building designed for 1050 pupils that incorporates a 114-space car park and a new sports pitch facility.  This development was awarded through the SCAPE framework and will deliver a state of the art learning environment.

As well as helping these pupils by building them a new school, our team thought they’d help out a local primary school as well.  We are proud to have provided students at Killermont Primary School with Level 3 Bike Ability Scotland Cycle Training.

Twelve enthusiastic cycling loving P7 students were able to sit their Level 3 Bike Ability training with the course places funded by McLaughlin & Harvey.  These pupils took part in the first Level 3 course that has taken place in the East Dunbartonshire Council local authority. Key learning outcomes included planning a journey and using more challenging routes when riding.

Cycling Scotland organised Bikeability Scotland is a cycle training programme for school children designed to give them the skills and confidence needed to cycle safely on the roads.

Congratulations to all of the students on passing their Level 3 training.  Stay safe on the roads!

Joint Leader of the Council, Vaughan Moody, said,

“Thanks to McLaughlin & Harvey for organising the Bikeability sessions at Killermont Primary School as part of their social value commitment to the community. It was great to see so many primary 7s benefiting from level 3 Bikeability instruction and developing their cycling skills and confidence. I was very impressed by the aptitude of the children and I am sure they will put what they have learned to good use in the future."

McLaughlin & Harvey Framework Relationship Manager, Fiona Coubrough, said

“We’re delighted to have helped the pupils at Killermont Primary School achieve their Level 3 certification. Learning these important skills will help keep them safer on the roads and increase their confidence to venture out on their bikes. We look forward to continuing our social value commitment within the Bearsden community.”
