Luke Rooker has been named as the Community Champion in the Provost’s Awards for 2026 in recognition of his commitment to supporting local charity Andy’s Man Club.
Having been a driving force within the Kilsyth group, Luke then set up the Kirkintilloch branch of Andy’s Man Club, a talking peer-to-peer charity group for men within East Dunbartonshire. The Clubs provide vital support and safe, non-judgemental spaces where men can openly discuss their mental health challenges.
Luke was nominated because of his selfless dedication, positive outlook and outstanding commitment to supporting the wellbeing and mental health of men within his local community. Through his compassion, empathy and unwavering dedication, Luke has helped create an environment where individuals feel heard, valued and supported during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
Provost Renwick said, “Luke’s story stood out to us as he is everything that the Awards represent. His nomination explained how his work actively challenges stigma and encourages open conversations about mental wellbeing and how his approachable nature, kindness and genuine concern for others have enabled countless men to access support, build resilience and feel less isolated.”
Luke also gives up his time on Thursday evenings where the men who attend the group on a Monday can socialise while playing pool. He also volunteers with SAFFA the Armed Forces Charity to help raise funds for veterans.
Luke said, "It was a complete surprise to hear that I had not only been nominated for a Provost’s Champion Award but had actually won.
