Craigdhu Primary School in Milngavie has struck gold again this year having received re-accreditation as a Gold Rights Respecting School.
The school first received Rights Respecting School status in August 2021 and has continued to place children’s rights at the heart of school policy and practice.
Since first registering for a UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award, Craigdhu Primary School has embedded a child rights approach into all aspects of school life meeting the conditions of the bronze, silver and gold accreditations.
To meet the requirements of the gold re-accreditation the school carried out diversity work that was celebrated by UNICEF in the feedback report and the enquiry-based learning closely linked to the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development was also highlighted as a key element of success. Furthermore, the school has now taken on an ambassadorial role, featuring as a case study within a UNICEF UK resource for teachers.
Convener of Education, Councillor Lynda Williamson went along to the school to congratulate staff and pupils on their golden achievement. She said, “I’m delighted that Craigdhu Primary School has been recognised for all the hard work they have put in to ensure the rights of the child continue to be at the heart of everything within the school.
Both staff and pupils have shown unwavering dedication to incorporating these rights within the school values, visions and nurturing behavioural policy.
The whole school commitment to sustainability and celebrating diversity has also been recognised and it was lovely to go along to the school and to congratulate everyone on their gold re-accreditation. Well done, Craigdhu Primary School!”
