The inspection team found the following strengths in the school’s work:
- The headteacher and staff create a very welcoming, supportive environment where children feel valued. This is evident in the children’s confidence, good manners and positive behaviour
- Parents play an important role in school life, supporting activities such as high-quality play at P1 and whole school events. This strong partnership between staff and families builds pride and creates a welcoming environment where children thrive
- Teachers create inclusive learning environments and match tasks effectively to children’s needs. They maintain consistent, high standards of learning and teaching supported by clear assessment approaches. This results in strong progress in literacy and numeracy
- Children enjoy a wide range of leadership and extra-curricular opportunities. These experiences build children’s confidence, teamwork and communication skills.
Convener of Education, Councillor Lynda Williamson, visited the school to congratulate everyone on the excellent feedback. She said, “I am delighted for the entire Millersneuk Primary School community for receiving this outstanding report: the headteacher, the teaching and non-teaching staff, the pupils and their families, all play their part in making Millersneuk Primary the inclusive, supportive and thriving school it is.
The report has highlighted the calm, purposeful and nurturing ethos in the school, and that staff prioritise building positive relationships with children and families. It notes that the children respond well to the high expectations set, resulting in positive relationships and behaviour across the school.
The report also mentions that almost all children achieve expected levels of attainment in literacy and numeracy and that staff celebrate children’s wider achievements in and out with school.”
The inspectors were so impressed by the school that the Interim Chief Inspector of Education wrote to the headteacher to offer his own congratulations following the publication of the report. The Interim Chief Inspector made specific mention of the strong relationships and partnerships across the whole school community which contribute to the successful learning outcomes of all the pupils, who are confident, well-mannered, successful learners.
Councillor Williamson, added, “It was a real pleasure to visit Millersneuk Primary School to offer my own congratulations in person and to join the headteacher, staff and pupils in their celebrations. This was a truly remarkable inspection report and one which they are all, quite rightly, immensely proud of.”
Headteacher, Mr Greg Caldow, said, “As headteacher I am very proud of the results we achieved. I am very proud of the incredibly diligent and dedicated staff, the enthusiastic and hardworking pupils and the incredibly supportive parents. This report belongs to all of the ‘Millersneuk Family’!”
