Work is forging ahead to create a new Civic Space in Bishopbriggs – a family-friendly focal point that will host events, enhance the local environment and support traders.
The project is part of East Dunbartonshire Council's Place and Growth Programme – supported by the Scottish and UK Governments through the Glasgow City Region (GCR) City Deal.
When it is completed in late 2026/early 2027, the Civic Space will include:
- A place for community events, markets, performances and gatherings, with a permanent canopy that will provide year-round outdoor use
- Natural stone paving and bespoke seating – creating a high-quality, durable public space
- Extensive planting, new trees and sustainable drainage
- Natural play features for children to explore and have fun
- Improved pedestrian access – promoting active travel.
The Civic Space will be created on land beside Kirkintilloch Road – between St Matthew’s Church and the access road to Morrisons.
Work is being carried out by Luddon Construction, with support from SWECO and Pick Everard.
As the project progresses, the footpath from the underpass beneath Kirkintilloch Road to the pedestrian crossing on the Morrisons access road will be closed at times, but a designated route will be provided through the site for pedestrians, to help keep disruption to a minimum.
