East Dunbartonshire is holding a Gaelic Day this month offering residents a great opportunity to learn more about the language and Gaelic culture. 

Bishopbriggs Gaelic Club –working in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council - will host the event on Saturday 27 September in the Woodhill Evangelical Church Hall in Bishopbriggs from 9.30am-3pm.

The Gaelic Day is aimed at anyone aged 18 and above and will cost £15 for residents and £20 for non-residents. 
 
Gaelic classes will be offered for recent beginners, intermediate and advanced learners. 
 
Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, Councillor Gordan Low, said, “East Dunbartonshire Gaelic Day has been organised to introduce people to Gaelic and its important place in our history and the Scotland of today. 
 
“Gaelic has a significant place in East Dunbartonshire. The language is on our coat of arms, in our place names, in our schools and in many of our homes.   

The Council believes that the Gaelic language has a valuable role to play in promoting diversity and inclusion, and we are committed to working with Gaelic-speaking communities and individuals to help support the language and ensure it continues to thrive in East Dunbartonshire.

“Supporting people who wish to speak Gaelic through these classes is an important way of helping to sustain its development.” 
 
The recent beginners’ class is ideal for learners who have completed an introductory course or have some understanding of Scottish Gaelic. 
 
The intermediate class is designed for learners who are ready to take their conversation skills further along through gaining more knowledge of grammatical structures. 
 
The advanced class is for adults who want to develop and practise their grammar and expand their conversational abilities.
