Councillor Gordan Low, Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said, “The world is experiencing an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather, driven by greenhouse gas emissions from human activity.

“In Scotland, our hottest days are getting hotter and our wettest days are getting wetter.

The Council’s draft Climate Action Plan is a strategic roadmap to reduce emissions, build resilience to the ongoing effects of climate change and deliver co-benefits for our communities – including cleaner air, better health and fresh job opportunities.
Councillor Gordan Low, Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council

"It is vital we gather as many views as possible to maximise the impact of this important piece of work.”

The draft CAP outlines how East Dunbartonshire can contribute to the Scottish Government’s target to achieve ‘net zero’ by 2045 – meaning that Scotland would no longer contribute to climate change.

As well as setting out objectives and future actions, the draft CAP details work which has already taken place and is ongoing – within the Council and across the area.

Emissions in East Dunbartonshire have reduced significantly since record keeping began, decreasing by almost 50% from 2005 to 2023, however, there are many challenges ahead.
