Eighteen young people, representing every secondary school in East Dunbartonshire, attended an Active Schools Young Ambassador Conference at Kirkintilloch Town Hall earlier this month.
The event kicked off with an informative sportscotland online conference covering topics from School Sport Awards to goal setting. The young people then engaged in interactive sessions to develop their confidence and skills in promoting sport and physical activity in their schools and communities.

Chair of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (EDLC), Alan Wright, said, “Youth Sport Trust created the National Lottery Funded Young Ambassador Programme in 2012. This is a key element of sportscotland’s contribution to developing young people as leaders in sport and it has been very successful in increasing engagement in extra-curricular sporting activities in our schools. Not only does this benefit the physical and mental health of all our young people, but the Young Ambassadors learn invaluable leadership skills through the training and support they receive from our Active Schools Team.”
All our new Young Ambassadors are extremely enthusiastic and keen to share their passion for sport, and I am confident they will go back to their schools and encourage other young people to participate in the many sporting clubs and events held in our communities.
