The refurbishment of Milngavie Primary School is progressing well now that pupils and staff have been decanted, leaving an empty building for contractors to work on.
Over the coming academic year, the following improvements will be made to the school:
- Full roof replacement including valleys, gutters and all sky lights
- Full window replacement
- Repair/reinstatement of stonework
- Internal decoration.

Already the junior building has all new windows throughout and significant progress has been made with the main roof replacement. The delicate job of doff cleaning* the main building’s stonework is complete and this cleaning work will continue until the full façade has been cleaned, repaired and reinstated where necessary.
Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, Gordan Low, “This extensive refurbishment of Milngavie Primary will bring significant improvements to the learning environment of pupils and will enhance the building for everyone said,
It is an important project for the entire school community and it is encouraging to hear that good progress is being made while the building is empty. I look forward to seeing works continue on this positive course.
Chris Boyle, Framework Director from main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey added, “We are delighted to be working with East Dunbartonshire Council on the refurbishment and fabric improvements to Milngavie Primary School. Construction works are progressing well and providing opportunities for local businesses and community organisations under the SCAPE Scotland framework. It is great to work within the local community to deliver a school that will enhance the education of young people and continue the long history of educational attainment in the area.”

The refurbishment project is set to be finished in time for pupils returning in August 2026.
