Fascinating talks, a family quiz and a chance to chill out – Milngavie Library has a range of free events on the way.

They're all part of Milngavie Week – the annual community celebration which this year has more than 80 attractions and activities – including Milngavie Car Show in the precinct on Saturday 7 June 2025 (10am-5pm), a charity duck race, walks, music and more.

The week is organised by Milngavie Community Development Trust in conjunction with various organisations, services and groups – such as Milngavie Business Improvement District. For more information, visit Milngavie week what's on and Milngavie Week Facebook.

East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (EDLCT) is playing its part by hosting free events at Milngavie Library:

  • ‘Kids Crafternoon’ takes place on Saturday 7 June 2025, 2-4pm. Stop by and make a cool Milngavie Week lanyard – drop-in event, no need to book.
  • Writer Rhona Morrison will be discussing her life and journey at Milngavie Library on Monday 9 June, 6-7pm. Rhona has gone from working with dangerous criminals as a forensic psychiatrist to travelling the world as a writer and lecturer. It promises to be a fascinating and thrilling hour, rounded off by a Q&A. Tickets are free, but must be reserved
  • A ‘Ladies Taster Tuesday’ evening takes place on Tuesday 10 June from 6-7.30pm, focused on women's health and wellbeing. There will be taster sessions, refreshments, and a chance to chat and chill out. Admission is free, but book a place 
  • ‘An Evening with Strathkelvin Writers’ Group’ takes place on Wednesday 11 June, from 6.30-8pm. The group will celebrate its latest collection, ‘Sky Painting’, with an inspiring and creative evening – featuring readings and reflections from a variety of local writers, with time for questions from the audience too. Again admission is free, but secure a spot
  • An inspirational talk on walking and willpower takes place on Thursday 12 June, 6-7pm. Geraldine McFaul strode from Glasgow to Rome in 2023 – a 2,009-mile journey which took her six months on foot. Geraldine will share stories and pictures from her amazing trek, as well as explaining what motivated her mission. There will be a cash collection for Mary's Meals and Dementia UK. Tickets are free, but reserve a place
  • Forget ‘The Chase’ and ‘Pointless’ – Milngavie Library will be hosting its first-ever Family Quiz on Saturday 14 June, 2-4pm. You can take a whole team or attend on your own and join up with others. Tea, coffee, juice and biscuits will be provided. Admission is free, but book in advance

I’m pleased we have been able to organise a packed programme of free events as part of Milngavie Week – the annual community celebration which brings together people of all ages. Please book now to make sure you don’t miss out.

In addition, as part of Milngavie Week on Saturday 7 June, there will be a pianist and complimentary tea/coffee at Milngavie Art Club’s Annual Exhibition 2025 – between 2pm and 4pm at the Lillie Art Gallery, Milngavie.

Milngavie Library is also hosting an ‘Adult Crafternoon’ on Saturday 7 June from 10.30am-1pm. The event is fully booked.

As well as the free events, there will also be 'Library Line Dancing' at Milngavie Library on Friday 13 June, 5.15-8pm, in association with Playlist for Life. It's a chance to learn some new moves courtesy of experienced teacher Graham Fox. Tea/coffee and snacks provided. Cost is £5 per person – book via EDLC.ticketlight - library line dancing.

Milngavie Art Club’s Annual Exhibition 2025 is now on at the Lillie Art Gallery, Milngavie.

It includes a range of exciting and diverse themes, and is available until 12 June 2025. You can also chat to ‘artist in residence’ members who will be attending daily.

As part of Milngavie Week on Saturday 7 June, there will be a pianist and complimentary tea/coffee at the exhibition, between 2pm and 4pm.

In addition, there will be a closing Tea Party with free cuppas and home baking on Thursday 12 June, between 2pm and 4pm.
