Once again the report on school leaver destinations in East Dunbartonshire shows an optimistic picture for the area’s young people with 98.6% of them going on to a positive outcome.
This figure from Skills Development Scotland (SDS) reflects the journey of 1,393 school leavers from East Dunbartonshire’s eight Secondaries and one ASN school in 2023/24.
Not only is this the best result in Scotland but it makes East Dunbartonshire the only Council to appear in the top three every year for a decade.
This is an outstanding achievement for our young people. A positive destination can mean higher or further education, employment, training or volunteer work and to achieve almost 99% is a fantastic outcome.
The SDS figures break down as follows:
- 65.9% in Higher Education
- 14.2% in Further Education
- 162.% in employment
- 1.9% in training
- 0.4% in voluntary work.
She continued, “Within those figures we also saw the highest number of young people from less affluent backgrounds go into higher education which is a hugely encouraging step in helping to reduce the poverty related attainment gap.
“These figures have only been achieved thanks to our schools providing the highest standard of education through a curriculum that meets the needs of all young people. Students themselves should be congratulated for their hard work and of course the support of their families should not be underestimated.
"We’ve got a great partnership with SDS that helps schools offer learning options that fit the job market and support every young person. That is why we are seeing so many of them take on the next phase of their lives from such a strong position.”
