Christmas has come early for everyone at St. Matthew’s Primary in Bishopbriggs as they have just received an extremely positive inspection report from Education Scotland.

Inspectors visited in October and worked closely with the Headteacher and staff while also speaking to parents/carers and pupils to help them evaluate the school.

Their reports says they found that:

  • Staff create a very positive atmosphere for learning, supported by the school’s meaningful values, which are underpinned by Gospel values.
  • Staff foster respectful and nurturing relationships with children who are highly motivated in their learning, articulate, welcoming and proud to be part of their school community.
  • The Headteacher’s strong leadership supports a culture of staff engaging in continuous professional learning which ultimately means that children benefit from rich and engaging contexts for learning.
  • Staff’s very well developed approaches to play help children to be curious and creative and take part in enquiry based learning.
  • Staff’s highly-effective approaches to teaching literacy and numeracy across the school mean children are sustaining high levels of attainment.

There is so much to celebrate within it and the whole school community should be proud of what they have achieved. Across the board – the Headteacher, her staff and the pupils – are praised for their contribution to making the school the success that it is.

“Children are achieving well in the important areas of literacy and numeracy and are also noted to be enthusiastic learners. That is wonderful to read as is the fact that inspectors found the school to have strong values and ethos, making for a positive place for everyone to work and learn. Well done St. Matthew’s.”

Headteacher Clare Wilson added, “We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of our recent HMIe Inspection which highlights the wonderful achievements of the whole St. Matthew's school community.

“I am extremely proud that our incredible children were highlighted as a considerable strength of our school. Education Scotland recognised that our children are welcoming, enthusiastic, highly motivated and proud of their school community. This is reflected in the positive Catholic ethos and climate for learning across the school.

“This report recognises the high-quality learning and teaching which takes place within St. Matthew's and is a testament to our hardworking and committed staff team. I would like to thank them for their dedication and creativity in providing rich contexts for learning while fostering a truly nurturing ethos.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our families for their support throughout the inspection process and I look forward to continued partnership working as we move forward through our improvement journey.”
