The work of a very talented artist will feature on this year’s Council Christmas card, Following a hotly contested competition for local primary schools.

A magical winter scene of woodland creatures depicted in watercolours by Rosie from Westerton Primary is Bearsden was the outstanding winner for 2025.

Provost Gillian Renwick assisted by Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid picked Rosie’s design from dozens of entries from across the area.

We had some amazing entries again this year with some really original ideas alongside more traditional themes which was lovely to see.

"Rosie’s painting is just wonderful - so charming and beautifully done. The details in the deer, fox, rabbit and woodland is excellent and show that she has a real talent.

“We also have two brilliant runners-up as there were just so many great pictures sent in. My thanks to all the children for their hard work and to our school staff for their support of the competition every year.”

This year’s runners-up are Aria from Woodland View School and Hope from Gartconner Primary, both in Kirkintilloch. Aria’s jolly snowman and Hope’s colourful Christmas characters will be printed on the back of the card.

All three pupils met the Provost and Depute Provost at a special celebration event where they received prizes of art sets.

Rosie said, “I really enjoyed doing this painting for the competition and I can’t believe I’ve won. Art is one of my favourite things to do so I am pleased that other people liked it. The card looks great and I'm excited to see my painting animated by a graphic designer. This has made me want to do even more designs.”

Rosie’s artwork has been animated by the Council’s graphic design team and will be used as the Council's official Christmas e-card going to hundreds of businesses and partners. You can see all three animated designs.
