Headteacher Michael Healy, said, “Our shared vision at Douglas Academy is to provide an educational experience of the highest quality; we offer our young people a stimulating and challenging learning and teaching environment and a host of opportunities to achieve in the widest sense. In addition, The Music School of Douglas Academy offers young musicians of exceptional ability the opportunity to continue their general education while receiving special instrumental tuition and extra time for their musical studies.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be headteacher here at Douglas Academy, and I was delighted to learn the school has been recognised as the Sunday Times Scottish State Secondary School of the Year 2026. This accolade is testament to the dedication and hard work of all our teaching staff, support staff, pupils and the wider school community and I’d like to thank everyone who is part of Douglas Academy for their valued contribution.”

It is a tremendous achievement for Douglas Academy to win this prestigious title, but it is not difficult to see why the judges have recognised the school in this way.
Council Leader, Gordan Low

“The breadth of learning that is available through the curriculum, supplemented by the excellent music school, gives the young people access to a variety of pathways to prepare them for life after school. Each and every pupil is encouraged and supported by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated teachers and school staff to reach their potential.

“Douglas Academy achieves academic excellence year on year and also enjoys success in the fields of music, public speaking, engineering, art and so much more. School life in East Dunbartonshire offers young people opportunities to develop their skills and embrace their talents, producing well-rounded individuals equipped for the wider world.

“Congratulations to everyone at Douglas Academy for being recognised by the Sunday Times in this way. The hard work of the headteacher, staff and pupils has paid off, and I know this latest accolade will spur them onto even greater things.”
