As you may have seen on the news, the Scottish Government announced its Programme for Government 2026 – 2031 this week.

Public Sector Reform was a key element of the Programme, across NHS, Health and Social Care Partnerships and local government, with reference to consultation across these sectors in the coming months to shape that reform.

COSLA has responded on behalf of local government in Scotland, advising that it will take time to consider the proposals, and COSLA Leaders will be discussing these and the implications for councils in the coming weeks. COSLA’s statement can be found on the COSLA website.

We will engage in the consultation as that develops and will seek to understand any proposals that emerge, how these are planned to be implemented and in what timescales, and we will share that information with you once the detail becomes available.

We will also continue to engage with our local Trade Unions to share information and discuss implications as more details emerge.

In the meantime, I want to reassure you all that it is currently ‘business as usual’ for us as we continue to deliver our essential services to our communities here in East Dunbartonshire.

We will ensure to keep all employees informed with updates of the consultation and proposals, through the usual channels, as further information becomes available.

Thank you,

Ann Davie
Chief Executive
