Today marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Japan (VJ) Day, when the Second World War ended for many.
A national two-minute national silence will be held at noon today, to remember and thank those who fought for our freedom.
We are marking today by taking part in the silence.
Everyone is invited to pay tribute to those who served by taking part in the two-minute silence within our offices, buildings or at home to pay tribute to those who served.
There are also events commemorating the special occasion in our libraries:
Today our three main libraries, Milngavie, Bishopbriggs and the William Patrick will host VJ Day” Information Stations” with book displays. Visitors will also be able to drop in and try their hand at origami, where they can make a Traditional Peace Crane – a symbol of hope, peace and reconciliation.
Thank you,
Ann Davie
