Back

Today marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, when the Second World War ended for many.

A national two-minute silence will be held at 12 noon today, to remember and thank those who fought for our freedom.

We are marking today by taking part in the silence and flying the Union Flag at the Council’s HQ.

Everyone is invited to pay tribute to those who served by taking part in the two-minute silence within our offices, buildings or at home to pay tribute to those who served.

There are also events commemorating the special occasion in our libraries:

  • Victory Teas are being held in Bishopbriggs, William Patrick (Kirkintilloch), Lennoxtown and Milngavie Libraries today, 2-4pm
  • Milngavie Library – Milngavie Heritage Group – The Home Front Remembered – 2pm to 4pm.

Thank you,

Ann Davie
Chief Executive
