Back

The Provost’s annual Christmas appeal will once again be focused on the local foodbank.

Over the last two years, you have donated over 50 bags of food which have gone directly to local people and families over the festive period. The positive impact your donations have had cannot be underestimated, so thank you for your generosity.

Unfortunately, people are still struggling and that’s why I want my Christmas appeal to once again support the East Dunbartonshire foodbank this year. They do a wonderful job throughout the year by providing emergency food to those most in need. Demand continues to rise so any donations to meet this is much appreciated.

The following items are most in demand:

  • Tinned vegetables such as peas, sweetcorn, carrots
  • Tinned meats (easy to reheat) such as curry, stew, casserole, chilli
  • Tinned beans and pulses such as kidney beans, chickpeas, lentils
  • Tinned soups, spaghetti hoops, ravioli
  • Pasta sauces
  • Coffee, jam, rice pudding, tinned fruit, long life milk and cartons of fruit juice that can be stored in cupboards until opened
  • Cooking oils
  • Microwaveable pouches such as rice, grains, couscous, lentils
  • Meals that can be made using just the kettle such as noodles, rice pots and soups.

A Christmas treat such as chocolate would also be welcomed.

If you can help with any of the above as part of this appeal, please donate them in our collection boxes from today.

All donations will be collected on Friday 13 December and taken to the foodbank.

We have located collection boxes in the following places:

  • Broomhill – back door (employee entrance)
  • Broomhill – bothy (kitchen)
  • Southbank Marina – reception
  • Southbank House - reception
  • Hilton Depot – operational canteen
  • Kirkintilloch Health & Care Centre – 1st floor outside the break room
  • Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and Lennoxtown Community Hubs and the three Leisure Centres (staff areas)

If you prefer you can also donate via Paypal on the East Dunbartonshire Foodbank website.

Many thanks in advance for all the support that you can give to this year’s Christmas appeal – I’ll share details of what we’ve been able to collect and donate to the Foodbank on Monday 16 December.

Thank you,
Provost Gillian Renwick
