As part of the ongoing teachers’ pay dispute, teaching unions, EIS, ADHS, SSTA, NASUWT have confirmed national strike action on 28 February and 1 March.

The EIS has also advised the Council of further dates that it is calling its members out on targeted strike action the week before and the week after the national strike dates resulting in strike action over the coming three weeks.

The EIS targeted strike action affects the Clydebank & Milngavie Scottish Parliamentary constituency.

  • The first week will be targeted action, affecting Milngavie & Bearsden only.
  • The second week will be national action affecting all East Dunbartonshire schools.
  • The third week will again be targeted action, affecting Milngavie & Bearsden only

The strike action will result in the following closures:

Targeted Action – Milngavie & Bearsden: 22-24 February

The following schools will be closed to pupils for three days from Wednesday 22 February to Friday 24 February. Early Years Centres will remain open.

Secondary: Bearsden Academy, Douglas Academy,

Primary: Baljaffray Primary, Castlehill Primary, Mosshead Primary, St Nicholas Primary, Clober Primary, Craigdhu Primary and Milngavie Primary

National Action – all East Dunbartonshire: 28 February-1 March

All East Dunbartonshire primary, ASN and secondary schools will be closed to pupils on Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March.

Early Years Centres, with the exception of Campsie Nursery, will remain open on both days.

Targeted Action – Milngavie & Bearsden: 7-9 March

The following schools will be closed to pupils for three days from Tuesday 7 March to Thursday 9 March. Early Years Centres will remain open.

Secondary: Bearsden Academy, Douglas Academy,

Primary: Baljaffray Primary, Castlehill Primary, Mosshead Primary, St Nicholas Primary, Clober Primary, Craigdhu Primary and Milngavie Primary

OPERATIONAL ARRANGEMENTS DURING STRIKE ACTION 22-24 Feb and 7-9 March

Facilities Management employees based within the Education estate should report to their normal work location unless otherwise instructed.

Early Years Centres Education (Non-Teaching) employees in Early Years centres i.e. Early Years Workers, should report for work as normal.

Teaching staff who are part of the ballot and working within one of the following Nursery/ Early Years Centre should report to either Bearsden Academy of Douglas Academy, whichever is nearest.

Baljaffray, Castlehill, Clober, Milngavie and Oakburn.

Education - All Employees within the selected targeted schools (Teaching and Non-Teaching)

The arrangements for signing in on the days of action for education employees based in schools and not part of the ballot are detailed below for each establishment.

Only Education employees (Teaching and Non-Teaching) based within the schools are being requested to report to the locations listed below. On reporting for work, employees will be provided with further information on the day with regards to their work allocation / location for the day.

If you are a multi-postholder across different bases you should report to the location below for the school you would be expected to have worked at on the day of action.
