National Testing of the UK’s Emergency Alerts system

An Emergency Alerts system is being launched by the UK Government that will warn you about nearby danger to life.

Alerts may be sent in the event of severe flooding, fires and extreme weather. These will only be sent by emergency services, government agencies and public bodies that deal with emergencies.

On Sunday 23 April 2023 at 3pm a national test of the system is due to take place. The test alert will be sent to most mobile phones across the UK. Devices will make a siren-like sound for 10 seconds, including on phones on silent mode. Phones will also vibrate and display a message about the test.

Employees who have a Council issued mobile phone should note that this test will affect work phones and so please bear this in mind when the alert is issued.
