Dear all,
I hope everyone is well despite what feels like constant rain at the moment! It’s been a busy few weeks and I would like to reiterate my thanks to you all for your hard work and commitment as we enter the last few months of the year.
Since my last update, we’ve implemented two significant measures related to our Roads.
We began enforcing the national pavement parking ban on Monday 1 September 2025. This prohibits pavement parking, double parking and parking across dropped kerbs, in order to improve the safety of pedestrians, particularly those with mobility issues, visual impairments, and parents or carers with pushchairs.
It is imperative that all employees who drive Council vehicles are aware of this legislation and ensures that no Council vehicle parks on the pavements at any time. This includes all fleet vehicles and pool cars.
Secondly, the new 20mph speed limit is now operational in Bearsden following on from its introduction in Twechar in July. The decision to introduce 20mph zones throughout East Dunbartonshire was agreed at PNCA last year. New signage is now in place to inform drivers, and it is important that Council employees are aware of where this speed limit is in place and adhere to it. The 20mph limits will contribute to improving road safety for everyone.
Classic horror brought to life on stage
Dracula will be brought to life at Kilmardinny House and Arts Centre on Saturday 1 November. Following a number of previous successful stage adaptations of radio plays including Frankenstein and A Christmas Carol, No Nonsense Productions theatre company returns with Dracula: The Radio Play. Presented as a 1950s radio play on stage, this chaotic comedic adaptation features live sound effects and period music. You can find out more information including how to buy tickets in the news section of our website.
Construction of new Balmuildy Primary School underway
Pupils joined Council Leader Gordan Low, officers and partners in cutting the first sod to commence construction work on the new £31.5m Balmuildy Primary School and Early Years Centre.
The new two-storey facility is being built on the site of the existing school and will include a dedicated early years centre for 60 children and a school building for over 460 pupils, with bright airy classrooms and outdoor terracing on the first floor. We aim to open to pupils in Spring 2027, and following demolition of the existing school building, work will then begin on a custom-built early years playground, an all-weather multi-use games area sports pitch, cycle shelters and hard and soft landscaping. For more information read our news release on the sod cutting.
