Back

Dear all,

I hope you all had a lovely August enjoying the sunshine, and hopefully some well-deserved annual leave.

The new school term has now begun, and I wish all of our new pupils and teaching staff the very best for the year ahead and hope they have settled in quickly.

A big well done to everyone who received their exam results this month. Results in East Dunbartonshire remained strong across our eight secondary schools with a significant number of young people achieving A, B and C grades as well as other positive destinations achieved.

Phase 2 of our Traffic Free Schools project kicked off at the start of term with Lennoxtown, Meadowburn and Thomas Muir primary schools now taking part in the initiative. This follows the successful completion of phase 1 and the decision that Clober, Craighead, St Matthew’s and Wester Cleddens primary Schools will be permanently traffic free.

As part of our Capital programme work construction work is continuing at both Balmuildy and Milngavie Primary schools.

The completion of this work is carried out by multiple teams including Major Assets, Traffic and Transport, and Education so a huge thank you to everyone who contributed.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who responded to the dreadful fire at the former Campsie View late on Friday night and into the early hours of Saturday morning and throughout the day. Thankfully no one was hurt, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were able to deal with it quicker than initially expected. Police Scotland are now continuing to investigate.

Equality Outcomes Consultation

There is still time for employees to complete the Council’s Equality Outcomes Consultation to help us ensure fairness for all in East Dunbartonshire, whether that’s residents, pupils, or our workforce.

You can complete the consultation by visiting the Consultation page on our website before Friday 5 September.

Pavement Parking Ban

We will begin enforcing the national pavement parking ban from Monday 1 September 2025. The Transport (Scotland) Act 2019 prohibits pavement parking, double parking and parking across dropped kerbs, in order to improve the safety of pedestrians, particularly those with mobility issues, visual impairments, and parents or carers with pushchairs.

You can find out more including any exemptions (streets and usage) on our dedicated Pavement Parking Ban webpage.

Monthly Wellbeing Focus

As usual, our Monthly Wellbeing Focus is updated each month with key campaigns and details of support all employees can access. You can read the Time for Talking Wellbeing Times newsletter and find out more about the Deskto3K initiative. You can access this information on the Employee Zone.

And Finally….

We will once again be taking part in Doors Open Days - opening the doors of our well-known local buildings for the public to explore.

The annual event, which this year takes place on Saturday 6 September and Sunday 7 September, allows free access to lots of venues as well as sites of historic, cultural, archaeological and community interest. Check out the EDLC Doors Open Day programme for more information.

Thanks,

Ann
