Back

Dear all,

I hope everyone who had time off during the Easter period had a lovely time with family and friends. I think everyone, whether you were on annual leave or not, enjoyed the sunshine that first week of the school holidays! For those that continued to deliver our services during the bank holiday weekend, thank you for your wonderful work as always.

Work continues on projects within our capital programme including the refurbishment of Bearsden Primary school and Torrance Community Centre. We also have consultations currently running in relation to on-street parking charges on certain streets in Bearsden and Kirkintilloch town centres, and a proposed new cemetery in Bishopbriggs.

Since my last update the changes to our general bin collections have been implemented and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in actioning this large service change. In particular our Waste Service but also our Customer Services and Complaints teams in dealing with enquiries from our residents.

International Workers’ Memorial Day

As outlined in Employee News 12, on Monday 28 April, the Council will mark International Workers’ Memorial Day. We recognise this day every year to remember those who have lost their lives at work, or from work related injury or illness. Any employee who would like to attend our commemorative event at the Cadder Pit memorial Cairn at Bishopbriggs Library & Hub are welcome. If you are unable to attend but would like to mark the occasion, you can participate in a one-minute silence at 12 noon.

St Ninian’s Shared Reading project recognised for local impact

Pupils at St Ninians High School are celebrating winning the Community Impact category at The King’s Trust Scotland Awards. A group of students have been reading to local primary two pupils as part of a Shared Reading project. As the pupils got more into the reading, they started to form positive relationships and became more confident public speakers.

Eventually, the young people choose the books that they read, and they would develop, source and deliver creative activities connected to the stories, such as card games, board games, quizzes or puppet making for the younger pupils. A huge congratulations to the pupils involved and good luck at the UK national final!

Financial Awareness Sessions

If you’ve not been able to attend one of the Financial Awareness sessions, there are further dates planned over the next few months. The sessions will focus on providing valuable and helpful information to potentially assist with future financial decisions and money management. You can find out more on the Employee Zone.

Monthly Wellbeing Focus

As usual, our Monthly Wellbeing Focus is updated each month with key campaigns and details of support all employees can access. You can find this information on the Employee Zone.

And Finally….

Congratulations to the Allander Leisure Centre for winning another award. The centre was hailed as visionary and was recognised for setting a ‘benchmark for modern, inclusive public architecture’ by the prestigious Civic Trust Awards scheme, which attracts entries from across the UK and the world. You can read more about this in on our website.

Thanks,

Ann
