Important announcement

Unforeseen operational resource challenges over the weekend mean that our food waste collection service is suspended today, Monday 3 November.

If your food waste bin was due to be emptied today, please take in your bin and present on the next collection day, Monday 10 November.

Green bin collections in a small number of streets in the Lenzie, Kirkintilloch and Bearsden area are also affected. If your green bin has not been emptied today, please leave it on the kerbside for collection tomorrow, Tuesday 4 November.

Our teams will be working hard to minimise the impact, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The Council’s purpose built Central Records Store (CRS) is based at unit 10 Kilsyth Road in Kirkintilloch.

The CRS enables the council to store all mid to long term archived records until they reach their retention period and can be disposed of and is a key aspect of the Information and Records Strategic Implementation Programme (IMSIP), which was approved in 2014.

The IMSIP is a rolling programme of work to centralise and improve information and records management practice across the Council and supports our requirement to comply with the Public Records Scotland Act 2011.

The centralised approach will ensure that services do not work in isolation with respect to the management and governance of information and records.  The IMSIP will promote consistency in the use, storage and disposal of information and records which could expose the Council to financial, reputational and operational risks.

Other aspects of the IMSIP that have been implemented include:

  • The application of the Scottish Council on Archive Records Retention Schedules (SCARRs) to retention periods and the storage of records we are required to keep for legislative reasons.
  • A database to monitor, track and record the movement of all Council records in all locations from registration to disposal
  • Updating of a range of policies and procedures to apply more robust processes to our records management practice
  • Disposal of  over 3,260 boxes of records across the Council to date.
  • Continued review of the remaining approx. 8,000 boxes of records currently stored in the CRS to create storage space and reduce our legislative risk going forward.
