Boclair Academy - Pre-Application Consultation

The Council is aiming to build a new state-of-the-art Boclair Academy within the grounds of the existing school site. Proposals for the new school were showcased at public events in March 2020.

Members of the public were invited to find out more about the project at drop-in exhibition events on Wednesday 4 March and Saturday 7 March.

It was a chance to explore proposals for the new building, ahead of a planning application being submitted.

Anyone wishing to make comments relating to the proposal - or seeking further information - is invited to contact Christine Dalziel - Barton Willmore (Agent):

Comments must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 10 April 2020.

Engagement has taken place with pupils, teaching and school support staff, parent council and local residents.

Please see the Documents section to download a detailed presentation on the Boclair Academy plans.

* Comments will be considered by the prospective applicant (the Council’s Major Assets Team) and will not be considered as formal representations to the Council as Planning Authority.

Dependent on a planning application being submitted, there will then be a further opportunity to make formal representations during the statutory notification period.

Consultation Results:

Consultation was held on 4 and 7 March at Boclair Academy and we had approximately 111 attendees across the two days.

Of the 29 completed comments forms we received, the following is noted that 93% supported the redevelopment of Boclair Academy to provide a new school on the site.

The key issues raised through the consultation were:

  • Internal layout of the school and the facilities/break out spaces that will be delivered for the pupils;
  • Improvements to landscaping and outdoor areas of the school;
  • The location of the building and the impact on adjacent residents;
  • Traffic and Transport; and
  • Confirmation of how safety of pupils and staff will be maintained through the construction and demolition phase of the tandem build.
