This consultation is now closed.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the Local Play Parks surveys for Waterside, Torrance Main St, Springfield Park and Dougalston Gardens North.
We are now reading through all the responses. Your feedback will help the Council with the design specification for the proposed new play areas.
Waterside Play Area
East Dunbartonshire Council is currently considering the creation of a new play area within Waterside in Kirkintilloch. The need for enhanced play provision in the area was identified when the Council, in partnership with Waterside Community Council, carried out its Greenspace Improvement Plan (GIP) Consultation with residents of Waterside from 2 August to 28 September 2021.
The Council is now asking residents their views on where this new play area should be located. There are two potential options for consideration.
To choose your preferred option, fill out the survey below before midnight on Sunday 6 August.
Torrance Main Street Play Area
East Dunbartonshire Council is currently considering the creation of a new play area at the existing site location off Main Street in Torrance.
The project we would like you to consider involves:
- the removal of all the existing play equipment and the associated safety surfacing
- the creation of a new play facility with modern safety surfacing catering for the needs of children aged 0-5 and young people aged 5-12 years of age
As space is limited at this location, the Council are asking residents (including the young people themselves) the types of equipment that you would like to see installed.

Springfield Play Area, Bishopbriggs
East Dunbartonshire Council is currently considering the creation of a new play area within Springfield Park off Muir Street/Springfield Road in Bishopbriggs.
Springfield Park currently contains two play facilities both of which are over 20 years old. Although these play areas have provided a valuable resource to the Bishopbriggs community for many years, the location would benefit from a full refurbishment.
Springfield Play Area 1 (which is located closer to Callieburn Road) has been installed at a fairly isolated location and cannot be easily seen by residents. The Council believes this location is no longer suitable for a modern play area facility.
Springfield Play Area 2 (off Muir Street) is located in an area that is very wet at various times of the year.
The Council is proposing to remove both existing play areas and reinstate the land at both locations. It then intends to construct one new facility with modern play equipment and safety surfacing which will be installed within the highlighted area of the map, included in the survey below. A proper access path leading to the facility will also be created. The new facility will be constructed in a raised manner so that it can be used throughout the year without fear of drainage issues affecting play provision.
