Have Your Say on Rent Setting
This consultation is now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the survey.
Summary
All Council tenants were asked for their views on the rent rise for 2027/28. They were asked to consider three options with supporting descriptions to explain the background to the rise and the more general financial picture.
Background
All tenants were encouraged to take part in the Council’s annual rent setting consultation.
Income from tenants’ rent allows the Council to deliver Housing Services, upgrade tenants’ homes and increase the number of properties available.
Details on previous local and national rent increases was provided together with information on the impact of different rent levels. Tenants were then asked to consider three options for the 2027/28 rise: 5%, 6% or 7% and complete the survey to give their views.
The consultation ran from Monday 17 August until Monday 28 September 2026.
Next Steps
Feedback will be used to prepare a report for a Council meeting in Spring 2027 to assist Elected Members to make an informed decision on the level of rent increase for the year ahead.
